The disgraced former reality star entered the unspecified "long-term treatment center" to work on himself, his parents Jim Bob and Michelle said in a statement.

"For him it will be a long journey toward wholeness and recovery. We pray that in this he comes to complete repentance and sincere change," they said.

The announcement comes after a series of scandals involving Josh Duggar led his family to lose their reality show, 19 Kids and Counting.

In June, the family admitted that the eldest son had molested five young girls when he was a teenager, including four of his young sisters.

The scandal led TLC to cancel the show, which focused on the large family and their devout Christian beliefs.

Last week, Josh Duggar came under fire again when it came out that his name was included in the Ashley Madison hack. He then admitted he had cheated on his wife, Anna, with whom he has four young children.

The Duggars did not specify what sort of treatment their son was undergoing, but asked for prayers.

"In the meantime, we will be offering our love, care and devoted support to Anna and our grandchildren as she also receives counsel and help for her own heart and future," they said.
